Dear Nicky Answers Your Questions
About Cats & Their Care

My name is Nicky and I'm a cat. Because I'm a cat, I'm very wise about things having to do with cats. I was rescued in 1992 and since that time I've taught my mom a lot (even if I do say so myself.)

On this page, you'll find my column of cat information in response to the letters and questions you send me. I'm sure that I'll know the answers to many of your questions, but if I don't, I'll ask my mom to help me research things so I can give you the best possible answers.

STOP THE PRESSES!!!  I'm really, really excited to announce that my good friend, WUFFY THE DOG, is featured in the March 2006 Cat Fancy.  WUFFY is an amazing dog who's been doing volunteer work with cats for 10 years.  She works with unweaned kittens, sick kittens and cats, and cats and kittens who have....shall we say, personality problems?  (Some of them can be darn right mean!).  I'm so proud of her I can hardly stand it.  Please read WUFFY'S incredible story in Cat Fancy!

I also have an index of articles on pet care and cat rescue for you to read, and I'll also be giving you some animal books that I recommend if you want to learn more about your pet.

You can send me your questions by using the contact page.

I'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF QUESTIONS LATELY HAVING TO DO WITH KITTIES WHO ARE NEARING THE END OF THEIR 9 LIVES FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER.  MANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO WRITE TO ME ARE HAVING TROUBLE LETTING THEIR BELOVED FURRY FAMILY MEMBER GO.

AS I TELL EVERYONE WHO WRITES, NO ONE CAN MAKE THAT DECISION FOR THEM.  HOWEVER, BEING AN OPINIONATED CAT (OK, OK...WHAT CAT ISN'T OPINIONATED???), I HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ON THE SUBJECT.  LAST YEAR WE LOST TWO OF OUR FUR FAMILY.  WELL, WE DIDN'T REALLY LOSE THEM.  I KNOW WHERE THEY ARE.  THEY'RE AT RAINBOW BRIDGE WAITING FOR MY MOM AND ME.  IT WAS HARD FOR MY MOM BUT I WAS VERY PROUD OF HER.  MY SISTER, NORA, WHO ALWAYS DID THINGS ON HER OWN TERMS, INSISTED ON DYING ON HER OWN, TOO.  MY BROTHER, MAO MAO, HAD A CHRONIC HEALTH ISSUE AND JUST WASN'T ENJOYING LIFE ANYMORE.  MY MOM AND OUR V-E-T HELPED HIM CROSS OVER.  I'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS A LOT WITH MY MOM AND SHE'S PROMISED ME THAT WHEN THE TIME COMES THAT MY BAD DAYS OUTWEIGH THE GOOD DAYS, OR OUR V-E-T SAYS IT'S TIME TO LET ME GO, SHE'LL HELP ME CROSS, TOO.  I WAS HER FIRST-BORNED AND IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY HARD FOR HER, BUT I TRUST MY MOM TO DO IT.  ME AND MY MOM BELIEVE THAT ANIMALS ARE TOO PURE TO LET SUFFER, SO WHEN IT'S MY TIME, SHE'LL CRY A LOT, BUT SHE'LL LET ME GO.  SHE KNOWS THAT ME AND ALL HER OTHER FURS WILL BE WAITING THERE FOR HER WHEN IT'S HER TIME.
