Pet Resources and Links

Here are links to other animal related web sites you might enjoy.

www.siameserescue.org This national Website for Siamese rescue.  I'm involved with the Southern California branch (SoCSR), but we adopt cats to great homes in other states, too.   If you love Siamese, and can offer a great forever home, please consider this organization.  There's a lot of useful information on this site, too!

Please support this great cause by shopping at our Ebay Store for great gifts like cat-themed note pads, wall clocks, mugs, earrings, cookbooks and more!

www.lightheartedpress.com:  If you've lost a very special dog or cat, you'll find a great source of comfort in Christine Davis' books :  "For Every Dog an Angel" and "For Every Cat an Angel".  Remi was my "soul dog" and I can't tell you how many times I've read these books. Each time I read the "dog" book, I feel a great sense of peace by the time I finish it.  These books are really a "must read" for anyone who's lost a special pet.

www.pawproject.com: Their stated purpose is to "advocate animal welfare, promote public awareness about the painful and crippling effects of feline declawing".  The also "rehabilitate declawed cats through paw repair surgery and supports measures to end the unnecessary practice of declaw surgery."  This site is a real eye opener.

www.saveacat.org:  Feral cats often have painful lives and die young.  Luckily, there are groups such as Alley Cat Rescue that educate people about this deplorable situation and who get out on the front lines and work long, hard hours to help these abandoned cats.  Alley Cat Rescue has calmed and adopted out many, many cats and is also helping decrease the numbers of ferals with their spay and neuter program.  Whether you're involved with feral cats or just want information, please visit this informative site and find out how you can help.  If you're unaware that this problems exists, PLEASE visit this site and learn more.  Together, we can make a difference.

www.aerokat.com : This is the site where people can order the chamber that's used to give cats inhaled steroids, such as Flovent. There's a lot of good information on this site and links to other places. If you think that your cat might have asthma, this is a good place to start.

www.fritzthebrave.com This is another site with good information re: feline asthma. It's run by Fritz the cat, so Nicky thinks that's especially cool. This is a fun site to visit to just understand more about feline asthma even if your cat doesn't have it.

www.declawing.com - Dr. Christianne Schelling's web site about declawing cats also offers a safe, natural alternative to declawing called "Soft Paws".

www.eternalanimals.com If you're Christian and you've ever had a nagging question about whether or not you'll really see your animals again....or if a cleric has ever told you that animals don't have souls, then this is the website for you. Run by Niki Behrikis Shanahan, the author of There is Eternal Life for Animals, this website will give you not only the reassurance that you desire, but the actual scriptures to back that reassurance up.

www.catmandrew.com If you want to see gorgeous prints and paintings of cats (and even some other things) at reasonable prices, then this is a must-see site. Drew Strouble's work is incredible and he was even generous enough to donate a print to CA. Siamese Rescue for their ebay site. Even if you don't think you want to buy, you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at his site.

www.at-choo.com Described on the site as being old world and matters of the heart inspired gifts and adornments, the items here are incredible. Some of the pet items will bring you to tears with their beauty. A very special dog named Quackers was the original inspiration and continues to supervise from heaven. Anyone who has ever loved an animal will want to check out this site. I got one of the pet medallions when my Remi died and I carry it with me wherever I go. It reminds me that love is eternal.

www.thepetpress-la.com  This is a monthly newspaper in the Los Angeles area.  It's devoted to rescue and you can get a lot of education.  Lori Golden started this publication from nothing and it's grown tremendously. It's a great resource and keeps getting better an better.

www.rainbowsbridge.com  This is a   virtual cemetery where you can buy a page for a furry family member who's died.  My Annie and Remi are there.  It's an incredible site and you really should at least visit it. It can be very comforting to visit your fur-babies there after they cross over.

www.meezer.com  This is the internet club for Siamese lovers and the home of Siamese Rescue.  It's also a great source of information about the breed and has great stories and "e" postcards.

Small Dog Rescue - This web site features small dogs under 25 lbs. available for adoption in the San Francisco Bay Area.

www.catfaeries.com : When my sweet Nora was diagnosed with kidney disease, she adamantly refused to have subq fluids. We tried everything but as tiny as she was, it required a minimum of 3 people to hold her down. I finally decided that I couldn't put her through that trauma and stopped the fluids. I was told that she'd probably live for about a month after stopping fluids. A cat expert I knew suggested Kidney Kitty (available on the catfaeries site), so I tried it. Nora lived a year and a half longer than anyone predicted.  Her fur was dry, but that was the only sign of her kidney problems. This site also has other great cat products on it.

www.stickypaws.com: If you read my mom's article about declawing, then you know it's not a good thing to do. Sticky Paws makes a great product that protects your furniture and helps to teach your cat not to use the sofa. You can often buy this product in your local pet store. The Sticky Paws people also make great cardboard scratchers. We'd tried a lot of those things with our fosters and they never liked them until we got Scratch This scratchers. Mom got the first ones as samples and everyone liked them so much that now we buy them. We also recommend these products to people who adopt cats from CASR. We've even found a new use for them. When our toy poodle was scratching the the paint off the back of the door, we put strips of Sticky Paws on it and it trained her not to do that.

www.alleycat.org : Feral cats often have painful lives and die young. Luckily, there are groups such as Alley Cat Allies that educate people about this problem and who get out on the front lines and work long, hard hours to help these abandoned cats. If you're aware of how great this problem is, or if you don't know anything about this, please visit this site to get more information and to find out how you can help. You can learn about the TMR (trap/neuter/release ) program as well as the other work this wonderful group does. If you buy your bank checks from one of the companies that have checks that give a portion of the proceeds to charity, you'll find one that benefits this group. Check it out (pun intended).

www.navs.org: The National Anti-vivisection Society, or NAVS has a mission to "promote greater compassion, respect, and justice for animals based on respected ethical and scientific theory." They also have a book called Personal Care for People who Care which fits easily into your purse and lets you know which companies are REALLY (despite what they say) testing mascara on rabbits. There's a small fee for this book, but it's well worth it.
